THE HEART BEHIND THE SERVICE
Our Story
My name is LaVrrise Bynes. I have a son who has a mental illness. His name is Pablo Stallings. He was diagnosed right before his 17th birthday. He is now almost 40 years old. Over the years we’ve tried numerous medications, lots of adjustments and bunches of different combinations of medications. Medication is the key to Pablo’s stability.
One evening while walking to the corner store Pablo was talking to himself out loud. Someone overheard him talking to himself and assumed he was talking to them and got offended. Pablo was shot five times in the abdomen. The bullets tore through his body like the ball in the old school pin ball machines. Bouncing from side to side damaging everything in its pathway. More than one surgeon worked on Pablo that night. They said it had been too much damage and he wouldn’t survive through the night. I stayed on my knees praying all night. By the grace of GOD Pablo was still there fighting when I returned very early the next morning and every day after that. Medically they couldn’t explain how he survived. The doctors referred to him as the miracle patient. He had a long road to recovery ahead of him.
Pablo has had to depend on medication for his physical and mental well being for the majority of his life. I support Pablo by assisting him with reminders to take his medication, setting his doctors appointments, and transporting him to his appointments. Medication management is a very important part of Pablo’s life. It keeps him safe and gives him stability.
